Day 9: Rest in God as Your Source of Life

Invitation to Rest

As you settle in to spend time with God today, try to find a quiet space where you won't be interrupted. Silence your phone. Grab your journal and a pen. Sit comfortably with your hands open in a posture that allows you to receive from the Lord.

Take a few slow, deep breaths:

  • Breathe in: God's peace
  • Breathe out: Any distractions

Opening Prayer: "Speak, Lord, for your servant is listening. Open my eyes to see, my ears to hear, and my heart to receive what You want to say to me today."

Today's Scripture Reading

Read today's passage slowly a few times and listen with your heart.

John 4:13-14 (NIV) - Jesus answered, "Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life."

After reading, pause for a moment and then reflect: What word or phrase catches my attention?

Meditation

Read the passage again, slowly, focusing on your word or phrase.

Everything the world has to offer gives a temporary sense of false satisfaction. It seems sweet at first, but sooner or later it turns into bitter waters. What Jesus has to offer will satisfy your soul and revive it. Jesus is our only Source of life, eternal life. His invitation is open for you to come to Him and allow Him to quench your soul, to satisfy your deepest longings and desires.

Take a moment to reflect on these questions.

  • In what way have I sought temporary satisfaction and why?
  • Jesus, what area of my life would you like to bring to life? Where in my life did I lose sight of You and Your power?

Conversation with God (Prayer)

Read through the passage one more time, allowing the Scripture to lead you to respond to God in prayer. Open your heart and be honest with him about what you are experiencing. Talk to Him about what comes to mind, and how He might be inviting you to respond.

John 4:13-14 (NIV) - Jesus answered, "Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life."

Are you feeling led toward a prayer of praise? Repentance? A plea for help or healing?

Contemplation

Rest in the awareness of God's presence, remaining open to anything else the Holy Spirit might stir in your heart. If your mind wanders, gently redirect your thoughts toward God. Simply be still. Enjoy a moment of fellowship with God that goes deeper than words.

Rest. Breathe. Be.

Closing Prayer:

"Jesus, you are my only Source of life. Thank you for providing eternal life for me, a life of continuous intimacy with you. Help me be aware of your presence. Help me run to you for satisfaction, meet the deepest longings of my soul. Satisfy me with your Word, calm my anxious thoughts, awaken my innermost being. I come to the well of your presence to be satisfied by you. I love you, Jesus. Amen."
