I have experienced the gift of faith twice in my life. Most recently I was going to the hospital with COVID and sensed the miraculous gift of faith for my own healing. The other time came when our daughter was born. We had a normal delivery; she was healthy, all her vitals were good. When trying to feed her for the first time, she choked and started to turn blue. The nurses rushed in, cleared her throat, and she was fine.
Later that night the nurse gave us the option to keep her in the room with us or in the nursery. We chose the nursery, and I’m thankful we did. If we hadn’t, we would have awakened to find our baby gone. She coded twice during the night. When they woke us in the morning, she was in the NICU in an incubator.
As we were leaving the hospital to go home without our newborn, the Spirit of the Lord fell on my wife and me, and we knew without doubt that our baby was fine and there were no issues. Back at the hospital we asked what tests were left, informing them that when the results came back negative, we would take her home. After five more tests (all negative), we signed release papers to take her home. They insisted we take her home with a heart monitor for the first six months.
At month three, we returned the monitor, signed more release papers, and our journey was over.
That little girl now has two children of her own and is expecting a third in September 2026. Whenever we look back on it we often ask ourselves, “What were we thinking?” The answer is always the same: we were operating under the gift of faith, and we never had a doubt.
